"The Gold Standard"
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is the standard and most basic recommended treatment option for depression, anxiety, and many other stress-related conditions. Developed by Beck in 1964, CBT closely examines thoughts (cognitions) and behaviors to determine and change how they influence feelings. CBT is typically the first-line of treatment for just about every presenting concern.
In our practice, we find CBT to be helpful for everything. However, there are many conditions where simply "talking" and examining thoughts, behaviors, and feelings does not lead to healing. For this reason, our practice takes CBT a step further by emphasizing Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) to take healing to the next level. Our emphasis on numerous approaches gives us an advantage in that we are able to customize a treatment plan uniquely for you. We often incorporate numerous treatment modalities to enable you to reach goals and achieve your potential by using an overall eclectic approach. |
Our CBT Therapists |
In CBT, we say - we have control of roughly 90% of our behaviors, 10% of our thoughts, and 1% direct control of our emotions. It is nearly impossible to intervene directly on the emotional level! We must approach at the behavioral level where we have 90% control or the thought level where we have 10% control (and can increase this greatly through conscious awareness!). Through intervening on the thought and behavioral levels, we greatly increase emotional control and regulation!
