We can all use couples therapy!Being in couples therapy does not mean that there are "problems" in your relationship! The most common misconception of couples therapy is that we need to "fix" what is broken. Couples therapy allows us to improve on what is good and work on areas that can use improvement. Couples therapy is intended to strengthen relationships of all kinds. In other cases, couples therapy can be used during life transitions including divorce, breakups, infidelity, disagreements, and custody discussions.

During the initial consultation session, the goals of therapy will be established. Goals may include getting over past hurt and pain, improving communication, conflict resolution, infidelity repair, and really anything that you would like to improve. Often couples wish to implement components of sex therapy in their couples counseling. Many couples attend therapy with no issues at all for the sake of keep their relationships strong! Others wish to attend pre-marital counseling therapy to strengthen their relationship prior to marriage or during stressful times.

Session Format
Appointment length is typically 45-minutes, however we can also provide 75- or 90-minute sessions. The 45-minute session is strict and cannot exceed 45-minutes. Some couples find that things just start "opening up" at 45-minutes and feel that 75-90 minutes is more productive.
We are very skills- and strategies-oriented combined with a non-judgmental and compassionate approach. The couples therapy session is structured with speaking rules and homework assignments that are intended to bring closeness within the couple. We hear from many clients that previous couples therapists have "made things worse" or "more heated" within the relationship. We are extremely careful and skilled in our approach when working through issues to ensure that improvements are made vs. further degradation.
