Does Karen Bass Support Mental Health?

Karen Bass has long been a proponent of mental health funding and allocation of resources.  As congresswoman, Karen Bass has openly advocated for mental health funding and research.  Now in the race for LA Mayor, she calls on Governor Newson to expand mental health treatment across California.  She has spoken openly about the homelessness crisis and using street outreach workers to increase support of severe persistently mentally ill individuals without police intervention (see debate footage here).  She encourages mental health workers to intervene before law enforcement arrest mentally ill individuals for engaging in activities like sleeping on the street.

"Los Angeles needs solutions, not slogans" she calls out.  She laid out a plan that would focus on mental health and substance use to combat homelessness.  She states that plans without an emphasis on mental health and substance use will fail.

Her voting record as United States Senator has shown support for mental health bills (see voting record here), which shows voting for bills like the Pride in Mental Health Act.  She vows to continue advocating and working to restore mental health funding and awareness during her term as LA Mayor.
