Christmas on Today’s Crisis

Ever since the year 2020 started, there had been a lot of fatal news spreading across the world. None of us anticipated how the 2020 would come about, but we remain steadfast in order to survive the year.
The fast approach of the holiday season last year was by far the most anticipated one. It was considered to be unique, heartfelt, and unforgettable. It was the best time to get together with our closest relatives, family, and friends. Without a doubt, last year’s Christmas celebration did challenge our daily means of coping with our inner battles.
So, I’ve listed four ways to maintain your mental health during the holidays and still get on with life everyday.
  1. Accept your needs - Be kind to yourself! Put your own mental and physical well-being first. Recognize what your triggers are to help you prepare for stressful situations. Is something making you stressful? What is making you feel physically and mentally agitated? Once you know this, you can take steps to avoid or cope with stress.
  2. Write a gratitude list - For this year, it’s a good time to reflect back on what you are grateful for, then thank those who have supported you. Gratitude has been shown to improve mental health. 2020 has been an especially challenging year for us all. In the midst of it all, is there something or someone for whom you are grateful?
  3. Set boundaries - Family dynamics can be complex. Acknowledge them and accept that you can only control your role. If you need to, find ways to limit your exposure.
  4. Breathe and Meditate - Meditation is definitely the most beneficial form of exercise that relaxes the muscle. Taking a break to refocus can have benefits beyond the immediate moment.
We all have our means of conquering our daily struggles and battles. But, we must keep in mind how important our inner peace and sanity is. We must, at all cost, prioritize our mental health and learn what triggers and help us. Because that is the only way we can get through whatever life may bring.
