Sexsomnia - why is it more prevalent now?

Sexsomnia (sleep sex) has become a new topic for talk among the medical community.  In our practice alone, we have seen a 600% increase in sexsomnia inquiries over the last year alone.  Why is sexsomnia so much more prevalent now?  According to Veronica Calkins, LCSW, sexsomnia has always been prevalent but is only now being recognized as the media has given it much attention over recent years.

Sexsomnia has existed for a long time but has only recently gained attention in the medical community.  It's essential to remember that while sexsomnia may seem more prevalent nowadays, it's still considered relatively rare compared to other sleep disorders. However, more research is needed to understand its prevalence accurately and its contributing factors.  As research into sleep disorders advances, clinicians are becoming more adept at recognizing and diagnosing conditions like sexsomnia. This may lead to more accurate reporting of cases as well.

At Pacific Mind Health, we treat sexsomnia and other sleep disorders - or other sex-related disorders.  Sexsomnia is never something to feel ashamed about.  It is courageous to reach out for help if there is ever anything that you are struggling with!  We want you to feel proud for taking a leap of faith in getting help - it is honorable and takes dedication, and we support you in every way we possibly can.
